1920 \u2013 Death of Anna Gulleson<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On December 31, 1920, Anna Gulleson passed away. The Henning Advocate<\/span> carried this news on Jan. 6, 1921: Mrs. Ed. Gulleson passed away at her home three miles south of this village (Henning) last Friday afternoon, following an extended illness of kidney trouble. She was not well since suffering an attack of the flue last winter. She was about 55 years old and leaves a husband and several children. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, Rev. Drage (of the Vining Lutheran Church) officiating.<\/em><\/p>\n

A further note was printed on January 13, 1921, in the Henning Advocate<\/span>: To the kind friends and neighbors who so willingly assisted us during the death of our wife and mother we wish to extend our sincere thanks. Also those sending flowers and assisting in music. Ed. Gulleson and children.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I assume this photo was taken after the death of Anna on December 31, 1920, since she is not in the photo. But it was not taken in the winter, right after her death, since it is not winter. The water tower in the background means that it was taken at the farm. Was it taken in the summer of 1922 before the family left for Washington?<\/p>\n

The dates are not yet clear, but it seems that in late summer or early fall of 1922 Edward Gulleson sold the farm and the farm equipment and moved to Ruby, Washington, to set up a logging enterprise. The records that I saw indicate that he might have leased the farm for a few years after 1922, but it is clear that he sold all of the farm equipment at an auction.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
