 “They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. We know that the law is good if one uses it properly” (I Tim. 1:7-8).

By the law is the knowledge of sin” (Romans 3:20). … But I would not have known what sin was except through the law” (Romans 7:7). … “So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith” (Galatians 3:24)

It is the Christmas Season, a time when we afresh consider the value of our closest relationships. We think of family, send cards, plan trips etc., all relating to those with whom we have close relationships.

Is Paul writing using hyperbole? (extravagant  exaggeration, like a ‘mile high ice-cream cone, literary overstatement to emphasize a point.)

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst (I Tim. 1:15).
